In a broader sense data could be texts, or numbers written on a piece of paper. It could also be in form of bytes and bits stored in the memory of electronic device.
How this information especially about people is obtained, stored, shared, deleted and dealt with in other ways has become an issue of immense importance, in some cases the management of data has caused some companies huge sums of money paid as fines for data right breaches.
